Former Karnataka Chief Minister and former External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has passed away. He breathed his last at his residence in Bengaluru at the age of 92. SM Krishna, who was suffering from general health issues, was awarded the Padma Vibhushan award this year. His political journey began with the Congress party, but he later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Karnataka Chief Minister and leaders of various political parties, both Congress and BJP, have expressed deep condolences on his demise.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge expressed condolences on the demise of SM Krishna and tweeted, “We are all saddened by the demise of former Karnataka CM Shri S.M. Krishna. His legacy of leadership and public service has left a lasting mark on our state and nation. His vision and dedication have contributed significantly to the prosperity of Karnataka. His vision for the development of Bengaluru endeared him to many. We are still benefiting from the global vision he presented. When we remember him, it is not just the loss of a colossus in our political arena but also an opportunity to draw inspiration from his life of service. May his soul rest in peace and his contributions continue to inspire future generations.”

SM Krishna started his political career in 1960. In 1962, he contested and won the election as an independent MLA. Later, he decided to join the Praja Socialist Party and eventually reached the Congress party. From 1999 to 2004, he was the Chief Minister of Karnataka and then became the Foreign Minister in Manmohan Singh’s government. After being in the Congress for a long time, he decided to join the BJP in 2017. Apart from this, he also held the post of Governor of Maharashtra from December 2004 to March 2008. SM Krishna’s political contribution will be remembered again and again in the politics of Karnataka and the country.
