Free medical treatment in hospitals will now be available to all senior citizens over 70 years of age in the country.

Prime Minister Modi said that this scheme will prove to be a milestone. He also said that Delhi and West Bengal are the states where the government has not allowed the Ayushman Bharat scheme to be implemented, due to which the elderly there will not be able to benefit from it.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that it is a matter of joy for the country that Ayurveda Day is being celebrated in more than 150 countries today. He said that this is proof of the growing global attraction towards Ayurveda. This is proof that the new India can give the world a lot from its ancient experiences.

During his address, PM Modi further stated that the faster the progress of a country will be, the healthier its citizens are. Keeping this in mind, the central government has set five pillars of the health policy:

  1. Preventive healthcare, i.e. prevention of disease before it occurs.
  2. Timely diagnosis of diseases.
  3. Free and affordable treatment, cheap medicines.
  4. Good treatment in smaller cities and addressing the shortage of doctors.
  5. Expansion of technology in healthcare services.
