In the context of the conflict between Israel and Iran that has been going on for the last five days, the leaders of the G7 countries on Tuesday expressed their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. Along with this, they have supported Israel’s right to self-defense.
In a joint statement issued from the summit, the G7 leaders declared Iran a ‘major source’ of regional instability and terrorism. They made it clear that Iran should never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. Also, all parties have been urged to make efforts for ceasefire and de-escalation in Gaza.
The statement also mentioned that the G7 countries are ready to take necessary action to ensure the stability of the energy market.
Meanwhile, the situation has grown more serious. Israel has issued a warning to residents of Tehran to evacuate the city ahead of possible air strikes, indicating a wider invasion. Given the gravity of the situation, US President Donald Trump has cut short his visit to the G7 summit by a day.
During the conflict, both countries have launched missile and drone attacks on each other. On the social media platform Truth, President Trump has urged citizens to leave Tehran. He has also said that if Iran had agreed to a nuclear deal with the US, the current crisis could have been avoided.
Experts believe that if immediate tension reduction measures are not taken, the conflict could take an even more serious turn.
