Gujarat Local Body Poll Result: BJP wipes out Congress in Gujarat

In the Gujarat district elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has recorded a huge victory. All 31 seats were won and Congress was washed out.

The vote count for local body elections on Sunday took place on Tuesdays in 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats. By 7 p.m., in all 31 district panchayats, the BJP had a huge lead.

In 2015, the BJP captured 22 seats, and the Congress won seven. Still, this time, by bagging both seats, the BJP washed Congress and everybody else out.

The success of the Congress in Panchayat District Polls was so strong that the grandparent in Panchmahal district did even fail to open its accounts. There was also no double digit in 29 districts for the number of its winning candidates. Even in the opposition chief Paresh Dhanani’s Amreli electoral district, Congress lost elections in Panchayat district. In other party bastions such as Anand, Sabarkantha and Jamnagar the candidates from Congress also gave good fortune.

In places such as Paresh Dhanani, Amit Chavda, Bharat Singh Solanki, Ashwin Kotwal, Vikram Madame, etc., the opposition party fared badly.

Congress State President Amit Chavda and Opposition Leader Paresh Dhanani submitted their designations after a party’s weak results in local corporate elections.

The BJP recorded its first ever victory in the Tapi district Panchayat, as Congress’s performance drops to an unprecedented level.

Although the BP dominates the urban areas of Gujarat, Congress is believed to be in power over the rural front. This time, however, the BJP could also build a stronghold in the Congress in rural areas.

Following the clear majority of the BJP results in Gujarat, PM Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation of “the indiscriminate faith and affection of BJP” among the people of that state.
