India, China Border standoff: In 20th WMCC meeting, agree to work for complete disengagement

The MEA said that India and China met virtually for the 20th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination. At the conference, the two countries decided to continue collaborating to ensure absolute disengagement at all tension points in the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector as soon as possible, added MEA.

The Indian delegation was headed by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Naveen Srivastava.

The Chinese delegation was headed by the Director-General of the Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hong Liang.

According to the MEA, both sides have checked developments along the LAC in border areas between India and China since the last round of the WMCC conducted on 30 September.

Both sides agreed to earnestly implement the five-point consensus reached between the foreign ministers of both countries” when they met in Moscow on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference in September.

It said that the meeting “focused on the disengagement of front-line troops and took concrete measures to deal with the issues on the ground to further deescalate the border situation”

According to a statement released by the Chinese Embassy, “The two sides talked very clearly about the results of the 8th round of Senior Commanders’ Meeting, agreed to continue dialogue and consultation across diplomatic and military channels, to hold the 9th round of Senior Commanders’ Meeting as soon as possible, to deal properly with pending issues on the ground, and to preserve peace and tranquilly together.
