The Indian government has issued an evacuation advisory for its citizens residing in Tehran due to the current tense situation between Iran and Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday issued an official statement confirming that Indian students have been moved out of Tehran for security reasons and some citizens have been assisted to leave Iran via the Armenia border.
As the conflict between the two countries reached its fifth day, missile attacks by Iran on Israel have caused air raid sirens to sound in several areas of Haifa, northern Israel and the Golan Heights, the Israeli military confirmed.
The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that the Indian Embassy is in constant touch with the community and providing all necessary assistance. Residents who have their own means of travel have also been advised to leave Tehran. The government has assured to issue additional security advice as per the situation further.
The Indian Embassy in Iran has also released helpline numbers on social media – +989010144557, +989128109115 and +989128109109 – which can be used for evacuation assistance. Indians and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) have been requested to get in touch with the Embassy and share their location and contact details.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli army has instructed the residents of Tehran’s District C to vacate the area, where many important state institutions and government offices are located. The Israeli army has confirmed that its fighter jets have attacked vehicles loaded with weapons and missile launchers moving from western Iran towards Tehran.
Apart from India, US President Donald Trump has also stressed the need for citizens to leave Tehran.
