Union Home Minister Amit Shah has clarified in an interview that India will not restore the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. He said that the government is working on a plan to build a canal to transport the excess water flowing towards Pakistan to Rajasthan.
The Home Minister reiterated that the Government’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism remains unchanged. He mentioned that the present Government is working towards addressing the root causes of terrorism in Kashmir, Naxal-affected areas and the North-Eastern States.
Speaking on economic issues, Mr Shah presented India as the safest and most attractive destination for global investments. He highlighted the country’s economic potential, citing India’s democratic system, transparent policies and huge consumer market.
The Home Minister also said that since 2014, the Government has ensured equitable distribution of benefits of development. He also emphasised the potential of India to emerge as a global economic superpower. In particular, Mr Shah described the reforms undertaken in the Indian banking sector and efforts at financial inclusion as models worth studying internationally.
These statements by the Home Minister reflect India’s clear foreign policy, counter-terrorism approach and economic development strategy, which reflect the priorities of the current government.
