The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that it, along with the country’s interior ministry, had attempted to launch a terrorist attack in Makhachkala, the Republic of Dagestan.
Four members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were arrested, said the FSB in a press release on Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The attackers intended to detonate an explosive device in the proximity of an administration facility for law enforcement officials and initiate an armed assault on police officers.
Law enforcement agents confiscated a stockpile of weapons for the attack and discovered signs of coordination from overseas on their cell phones.
