India’s neighbouring country, Nepal, shares the border which stretches about 1,800-km. There are about 37 motorable land entry points also.
With the onslaught of Coronavirus pandemic spreading at an alarming rate, Nepal government had suspended the cross-border movement with India in March last year.
Nepal agreed on Thursday to restart cross-border transportation with India, despite a substantial decrease in COVID-19 cases in the Himalayan country.
The decision was made at a meeting of Nepal’s COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singhadurbar, according to the centre’s president, Khaga Raj Baral.
“The CCMC meeting agreed to recommend to the Cabinet that cross-border transportation between Nepal and India be resumed via various 12 routes,” Mr Baral said.
Passengers traveling by land, on the other hand, must follow coronavirus protocols and produce a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test report 72 hours before their flight.
