PM Modi’s Canada visit: Indian community expresses hope for improvement in bilateral relations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Calgary to attend the G-7 summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Indian community living in Canada has described this visit as an opportunity to improve relations between the two countries.

According to businessman Hardik Pandya, “This invitation extended by the Canadian government is commendable. The relations between the two countries have changed significantly in the last decade. India’s economy has grown and it is important for Canada to cooperate with big economies.”

Nidhi Lodha, Senate member of the University of Calgary, called it a positive move, saying, “This will help revive relations between India and Canada, which were almost in abeyance until now.”

Pediatrician Dr Abhay Lodha praised the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and mentioned the development work done by him, especially in the field of gas connections and toilet construction.

Retired professor Brij Maini sheds light on economic growth, saying, “India’s GDP growth rate has been more than 5 percent for the last ten years. The new Prime Minister Carney is interested in improving relations with India.”

According to Professor Anil Manohara, “Both the countries should sit face to face and discuss all the issues, because discord will not yield any results.”

Businessman Ritesh Malik described the visit as a serious effort to rebuild relations between the two countries. He noted the absence of a High Commissioner or Consul General for the first time in the last fifteen years.

Canadian journalist Daniel Boardman reported that most Canadian citizens are confused by the anti-Modi protests and the influence of the Khalistani movement is less now than in 2023.
