Barbados has honoured India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its country’s highest national award ‘Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados’ for his strategic leadership and valuable assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita received the award on behalf of Prime Minister Modi at a ceremony held in Bridgetown. The Ministry of External Affairs gave information about this in a statement.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley met Prime Minister Modi on 20 November 2024 during the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Georgetown, Guyana. She announced this award to Prime Minister Modi, appreciating his important role in strengthening international cooperation and support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Margherita expressed her gratitude for this honour and said that it is a great honour for her to represent Prime Minister Modi and accept this prestigious award on his behalf. This honour underlines the deepening relations between India and Barbados and also reflects our shared commitment to cooperation and development in times of crisis.
India and Barbados have fostered a strong partnership through sustained engagement and development initiatives since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966. This award symbolises the enduring friendship between the two countries.
