President Draupadi Murmu has said that central higher education institutions have a big responsibility in making India a knowledge superpower. In the inaugural address of the Visitor’s Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, President Murmu said that Generative Artificial Intelligence is being discussed nowadays. He said that institutes of technology should take initiative in such areas. He said that in 2019, an analysis of two years’ data by the Central Government revealed that about 2500 students dropped out of Indian Institutes of Technology, which is a matter of concern. He said that about fifty percent of these students came from the reserved classes.

President Murmu stressed the need to consider the problem of drop-outs very sensitively and find a solution. He said that suicide of students in educational institutions is a matter of concern for the education world. The President said that the leadership of women can prove to be more effective in the field of higher education. He urged the Central Higher Education Institutions to pay attention to this aspect. President Murmu also emphasized that character building of the youth should be given priority in higher-education institutions.

The President said that education is important for the progress of the individual, society and country. Higher education is the most effective way out of adversity for most young people. The President said that providing equitable and inclusive higher education to youth coming from socially and economically disadvantaged groups is one of the priorities of the National Education Policy 2020. He said that the objective of the National Education Policy is to make India a global knowledge superpower.

He expressed confidence that higher educational institutions would play a vital role in achieving the goal of establishing India as a developed nation by the year 2047. The President said that our knowledge centers should become centers of the knowledge economy. The President of India is the Visitor of 162 Central Institutes of Higher Education. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also addressed the conference. Earlier, the President presented the Visitor’s Awards 2021.
