The Government of India will organize a special event on February 26th to effectively promote the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (Namaste) scheme. The event will be held at the Gandhi Auditorium, Gandhi Stadium Complex, Pilibhit. The event aims to strengthen the safety, dignity, and socio-economic empowerment of sanitation workers. During the event, personal protective equipment (PPE kits) and Ayushman cards will be distributed to sewer and septic tank workers (SSWs) and waste pickers to ensure their workplace safety and health coverage. Additionally,
Beneficiaries who have received skill development training will be provided with sewing machines, enabling them to develop alternative livelihood opportunities. The event will also share information about the key objectives and benefits of the Namaste scheme. The scheme’s focus is to eliminate unsafe sanitation work through mechanization, increase job safety for sanitation workers, and provide them with opportunities for a dignified life and income. This initiative places special emphasis on training, equipment, health care, and social protection.
This program underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing the underprivileged. It aims to provide concrete assistance to communities that have long been marginalized or whose needs have been overlooked. The event will convey the message that sanitation workers’ contributions to society are invaluable, and that their safety and dignity are paramount. Overall, this event in Pilibhit will be an important step toward strengthening the Namaste Scheme’s objectives at the grassroots level, delivering direct benefits to beneficiaries, and promoting safe, sustainable, and humane practices in the sanitation sector.
