Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, who is facing allegations of being insensitive towards the wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, on Wednesday met him at Jantar Mantar and assured him of support. Usha had earlier strongly criticized the wrestlers for starting the protest again instead of approaching the IOA for their issues.
Bajrang Punia told the media, “Initially we felt very bad when he said this but then he said that his comments were misinterpreted. He said he is an athlete first and an administrator second.” This wrestler, who won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics, said, ‘We told him that we want justice. We have no quarrel with the government or the opposition or anyone else. We are sitting here for the betterment of wrestling. If this issue is resolved and the allegations are proved then legal action should be taken.
Usha had said that the wrestlers should have shown discipline. He and the IOA were criticized after this comment.
