Rain continues to wreak havoc in North India, PM Narendra Modi reviews the situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the heavy rains and flood situation in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said in a tweet that he has given the Prime Minister detailed information about loss of life, condition of roads, crops and Chardham Yatra and Kavad Yatra.

Pushkar Singh Dhami briefed the Prime Minister over the telephone about the relief and rescue operations being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force, police and administration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke on phone with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Sukhu informed the Prime Minister about the loss of life and property and requested the central government for a special economic package for the state. The Chief Minister also appealed to the Prime Minister to declare the situation as a national calamity.

National Disaster Response Force – NDRF has started relief and rescue operations in the States affected by rains, floods and landslides. NDRF Has deployed 39 teams in four states. 14 teams have been deployed in Punjab, 12 in Himachal Pradesh, 8 in Uttarakhand and 5 in Haryana.
