Union Minister and ex-officio member of New Delhi Municipal Council Meenakshi Lekhi has said that the name of Rajpath has been changed to Dutypath. In the meeting of New Delhi Municipal Council, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi said that the council has passed a resolution to change the name of Rajpath to duty path.
He said that India is completing 75 years of independence, in such a situation it is appropriate to abandon the colonial tradition and move towards completing 100 years of independence with our own heritage in the Amrit period. He congratulated all the citizens on this historic decision.
Prime Minister Modi, in his Independence Day speech this year, had stressed the need to eliminate symbols depicting colonial thinking. Sources said that the Prime Minister has stressed on the importance of all people performing their duties in the next 25 years till 2047 and this spirit can be seen in the name ‘Kartavyapath’.
He said that the Modi government had changed the names of many roads to people-centric names even before this. In 2015, the name of Race Course Road was changed to Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Prime Minister’s residence is located. In 2015, Aurangzeb Road was renamed as APJ Abdul Kalam Road. In the year 2017, Dalhousie Road was renamed as Darashikoh Road. There have also been many proposals to change the name of Akbar Road, but no decision has been taken yet.
