The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition challenging the Special Investigation Team’s decision to acquit the then state Chief Minister Narendra Modi and several others in the 2002 Gujarat riots case.
THE PETITION WAS FILED BY ZAKIA JAFRI, WIFE OF FORMER CONGRESS MP EHSAN JAFRI.
Earlier, Zakia’s lawyer had said that his complaint in the 2006 case was that “a grand conspiracy was hatched, involving bureaucratic inaction and complicity of the police and hate speech and violence.”
The top court dismissed the petition saying it was not maintainable. Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, who was killed in Ahmedabad’s Gulberg Society in 2002, had challenged the Special Investigation Team’s report that acquitted 64 people, including Narendra Modi, in the case.
