In Sri Lanka, orders have been given to shoot at sight as anti-government protests are rampant. The Defense Ministry has ordered the three armies to shoot at sight rioters who loot or damage public property.
During the last few days, anti-government protests have intensified across the country and clashes with security forces deployed at the protest sites have increased. Protesters are setting fire to the homes of ministers and MPs.
Anti-government protesters set fire to the official residences of the mayor of Sri Lanka’s Moratuwa city and several parliamentarians, taking refuge in the Trincomalee naval base after resigning prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and some of his family members left the official residence in Colombo.
Protests broke out in front of the naval base on Tuesday after the news spread, with protesters demanding Mahinda’s ouster from the premises.
