The Sri Lankan government has banned the use of major social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, to deal with the growing unrest amid the unprecedented economic crisis.

The restrictions have been imposed after the government imposed a nationwide curfew yesterday as protests against the government turned violent over the economic crisis. The curfew will remain in force till 6 am on Monday. Police said that hundreds of people have also violated the curfew.

Meanwhile, India has announced a Line of Credit of $1 billion to Sri Lanka. The amount comes after five hundred billion dollars provided in February for the purchase of petroleum products. India also delivered a consignment of 40 thousand metric tonnes of diesel to Sri Lanka yesterday. This is the fourth time India has provided this assistance to reduce power cuts.
