India made waves in the aerospace world today, Friday, by successfully launching the medium-range ballistic missile Agni-4 from the Integrated Test Range in Chandpur, Odisha. DRDO conducted this successful test from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
The missile traveled to its maximum range and accurately hit its target. The modern, lethal, precise and medium-range nuclear ballistic missile of the Agni series can destroy multiple enemy targets simultaneously.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the launch conducted at 7:30 PM under the Strategic Forces Command of India’s Nuclear Command Authority (NCA) successfully established all operational and technical parameters. Launched from the Integrated Test Range in Chandpur, Odisha, the Agni-4 missile can carry a payload of 1,000 kg to 4,000 km and can be fired from a road-mobile launcher. In 2012, Agni-4 covered a distance of over 3,000 kilometers in 20 minutes.
This DRDO test was the longest-range mission at that time. The Agni-4 missile was previously called Agni-2 Prime. Agni missiles have been designed and developed by DRDO. With Agni-5, India’s indigenously developed missiles have come a long way.
