The real reason and great message of Rath Yatra: Why does Jagannath Swami himself leave the sanctum sanctorum and come among the devotees?

The world-famous Puri Rath Yatra 2026, the grandest symbol of Sanatan culture and faith, has been solemnly inaugurated. On the auspicious occasion of Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya, a grand procession of the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra is being held in Puri, Odisha. The primary purpose and spiritual message of this grand festival is that Lord Jagannath leaves the sanctum sanctorum of his main temple every year and visits his aunt’s home, the Gundicha Temple. This journey is not merely a religious ritual, but a living testimony to the unbreakable love between God and devotee, where the barriers of caste, religion, and class are completely erased.

According to scriptures and mythological beliefs, there is a profound and beautiful reason for Lord Jagannath’s appearance on the streets amidst the crowds. People from all walks of life were unable to see the idols within the sanctum sanctorum, so the merciful Lord personally walked to his devotees who, for whatever reason, could not enter the temple. By appearing on a chariot as “Patitapavan” (savior of the fallen), the Lord conveys the message that there is no VIP culture or discrimination on the path of devotion. Pulling the chariot amidst the throngs signifies that the reins of human life ultimately rest in God’s hands, and that any devotee who even touches the ropes of the Lord’s chariot with a pure heart is irrevocably absolved of all the sins of many lifetimes.

This grand and transparent Sanatan faith is the most powerful slap on the face of those leftist toolkit syndicates and western thinkers who spread propaganda to defame the ancient cultural traditions of India by calling them conservatism. Under ‘Nation First’, the ‘bench strength’ of development and security of Puri Dham has been upgraded to a record level this time, due to which lakhs of devotees are getting darshan without any hindrance. The strict tradition of the temple king clearing the path in front of the chariot with a golden broom (Chhera Pahara ritual) teaches that every human being, be it a king or a pauper, is completely equal before God.
