There will be a total lunar eclipse today. A total lunar eclipse will be visible from Asia, Australia, North America, most parts of South America, northern and eastern Europe, the North Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
Eclipse in India can be seen from all places at moonrise. The lunar eclipse will start at 2:39 pm Indian time and the total eclipse will be visible from 3:46 pm.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences has said that the initial phase of the lunar eclipse will not be visible from any part of India, but it will be visible at the time of moonrise. The total lunar eclipse and its partial phases will be visible in the evening in the eastern parts of the country. Partial Lunar Eclipse will be visible from all other parts of the country.
In the eastern parts of the country, Kolkata and Guwahati will see the initial position of the lunar eclipse, while other metros Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore will see partial phases of moonrise and will be visible till the end.
Lakhs of devotees will today take a holy dip in the Ganges in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on the occasion of Kartik Purnima and the lunar eclipse. Meanwhile, the doors of Badrinath Dham were closed before the lunar eclipse started. After the completion of the lunar eclipse, the doors will be opened again at 6.25 pm.
Lunar eclipse occurs on the full moon day when the earth comes between the sun and the moon and all three remain in a straight line.
