Trace Rohingyas who attended Tablighi Jamaat, screen them for Covid-19:Health Ministry

The Ministry of Home Affairs has written to states and Union Territories asking them to investigate Rohingya-Tablighi links stating that Rohingya Muslims and their contacts may need to be screened for Covid-19.

India Today TV has obtained the letter written by deputy secretary in internal security division-1 Srinivasu K is marked to chief secretaries and advisors, DGPs and CP Delhi.

The letter says that it has been reported that Rohingya Muslims have attended ijtemas and other religious congregations of Tablighi Jamaat and there is a possibility of their contracting Covid-19. Rohingyas living in camps in Telangana’s Hyderabad had attended Tablighi Jamaat ljtema at Mewat in Haryana and had visited the Nizamuddin Markaz at New Delhi, the MHA letter said.

Similarly, Rohingyas from camps in Delhi’s Shram Vihar and Shaheen Bagh had gone to the Tablighi Jamaat event but are yet to come back, the letter said.
Rohingya Muslims, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event Nizammudin Markaz, were also reportedly seen in Punjab’s Derabassi and Jammu area of Jammu and Kashmir.

There are around 40,000 Rohingyas in India, while only 17,500 have registered as refugees with the UNHCR.
