Two coaches of the overnight express train coming from Indore to Jabalpur derailed on Saturday morning. The accident occurred as the train was approaching platform number 6 at Jabalpur railway station. Fortunately, since the train was moving at a slow speed at the time of the accident, a major disaster was averted. No casualties or injuries have been reported. The railway authorities have already started an investigation into the incident.
The train typically arrives in Jabalpur at around 5:35 AM. As it reached the station on time, two of its AC coaches derailed. Upon receiving the information, the railway’s technical team immediately arrived at the scene and began relief and rescue operations.
Harshit Srivastava, Chief Public Relations Officer of West Central Railway, stated that the up-track was obstructed, but the derailed coaches have been separated from the main line. The train had 10 to 12 coaches. Initial investigations revealed that the accident happened as the train was approaching platform number 6 at a speed of 20 km/h. The General Manager has ordered an inquiry into the accident. One of the derailed coaches was a parcel coach, while the other was an AC coach. He also mentioned that the track will be repaired soon. For a brief period, trains coming from Itarsi to Jabalpur were halted at Madan Mahal station.
