US Congress debates Iran war funding, questions $200 billion proposal

When a war drags on, the first question that arises is its cost—and that’s exactly what’s happening in the United States. The mounting costs of the ongoing conflict with Iran have created a strange picture in the US Congress, where lawmakers from both parties are openly questioning the White House’s request for more than $200 billion in war funding.

According to CNN, the White House is preparing to seek substantial new funding for the war. Some lawmakers say the administration has not yet clarified how this money will be spent and how long the US military engagement will last. Representative Thomas Massie asked, “Is this the first $200 billion? Will it turn into a trillion?”

The situation on the ground is becoming more tense. US and allied forces have increased their operations around the Strait of Hormuz. A-10 Warthog fighter jets and Apache helicopters are deployed on the southern front. These attacks have led to a sharp rise in oil prices and increased pressure on global supply chains.

Energy analysts have warned that the economic damage will deepen if the conflict continues. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has also said it remains to be seen whether the request will pass. The conflict has also sparked debate about whether easing sanctions on Iranian oil could stabilize global prices.
