Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the government is ready to hold talks with the protesting youth, amid growing protests over the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office said the government was ready to discuss how to deal with the current crisis if the protesting youth agreed. Young protesters are demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya and his entire family members.
There are continuous protests across the country blaming the government for its failure to deal with the foreign exchange crisis.
Meanwhile, President Gotabaya defended his government’s actions, saying the foreign exchange crisis was not the government’s and the economic slowdown was largely due to the Covid pandemic, which reduced revenues for the country’s tourism sector.
