The Maharashtra government has initiated disciplinary action against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and suspended him with immediate effect. In a government order, the state government said that this officer should not go out of Maharashtra without permission and should not engage in any kind of trade and business during the period of suspension.
The Government of India has referred to the FIRs registered against Param Bir Singh in four police stations to justify his suspension order.
In March this year, Param Bir Singh was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner. Earlier, he wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, accusing the then Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of misusing his position.
Although Param Bir Singh was appointed as the Director General of Home Guards, he went on leave and did not take up his post without any notice. Singh surfaced last month after going missing for a long time, before the Supreme Court granted him a stay in Maharashtra. He was ordered to be involved in the ongoing investigation cases against him.
