Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is on a two-day official visit to Qatar on April 9 and 10. During the visit, he met Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi. At the meeting, Puri conveyed the greetings and support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Qatar’s Prime Minister.
He noted that in their conversation in March 2026, PM Modi and the Amir of Qatar had both emphasised the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region. Gratitude was also expressed for the support being extended to the Indian community in Qatar. The meeting covered wide-ranging discussions on strengthening trade, investment, energy, cultural, and people-to-people ties between India and Qatar.
Qatar’s Minister Al-Kaabi assured that Qatar will remain a reliable energy supplier to India and that energy cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened. Both sides welcomed the two-week ceasefire that came into effect on April 8 and emphasised the need to swiftly address disruptions to global energy supply.
The importance of ensuring safe maritime passage and maintaining smooth global trade was also underscored. Both leaders agreed to stay in regular contact and work towards deepening bilateral cooperation in the coming months.
