NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: The internal conflicts and double standards of the opposition factions have once again been completely exposed before the citizens of the country. A bizarre and shrewd ‘double game’ by the Congress party is playing out regarding Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. While Congress leaders put on a hollow show of opposition unity and pose for photos hand-in-hand with Mamata Banerjee inside air-conditioned rooms in Delhi, the very same party declares the TMC its biggest and bitterest enemy the moment it steps onto West Bengal soil.
Recent statements from Bengal’s local leaders and the central high command have fully highlighted this blatant contradiction. In Delhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge portray Mamata Banerjee as a ‘close friend’ and an essential part of the alliance at the national level. Meanwhile, in Bengal, Congress leaders—following in the footsteps of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury—are organizing aggressive street protests against the TMC government’s alleged corruption, law-and-order collapse, and political violence. This dual stance by Congress clearly shows how ideologically hollow and directionless this power-hungry alliance truly is.
This political hypocrisy serves as a sharp blow to leftist and opposition intellectuals who have been trying to project a narrative of a strong and united opposition to the nation. The BJP, which practices the politics of ‘Nation First,’ launched a fierce attack, stating that this alliance between Congress and TMC is purely an electoral stunt to evade investigations by central agencies and mislead the public. The politically aware citizens of Bengal have thoroughly understood Congress’ ‘double game’ and stand fully prepared to deliver a fitting reply to this contradictory drama between Delhi and Kolkata in the upcoming elections.
