Country celebrates Hindu festival Guru Purnima, Vice President, PM greet the nation
As rainshowers drenched Delhi on Monday afternoon, thousands of devotees left early on Tuesday to reach various temples and Ashrams to pay obeisance to their Gurus on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
Popular ashram and places of worships could be seen being flocked by people from far and wide.
As people across the country worshipped their Gurus at different places, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in offering greetings to people on this important day.

The festival is derived from a spiritual tradition in Hindu religion dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers, who are evolved or enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom, with very little or no monetary expectation, based on Karma Yoga.

Guru Purnima is thus celebrated as a festival in India, Nepal, and Bhutan by not just Hindus, but Jains and Buddhists as well.
This festival is traditionally observed by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains to revere their chosen spiritual teachers / leaders and express their gratitude.
