More than 500 immigrants have been arrested as part of a massive operation against illegal immigrants in the US. The White House informed about this effort on Friday morning (Indian time). Press Secretary Caroline Levitt tweeted on Friday that the Trump administration has succeeded in apprehending a total of 538 illegal immigrant criminals. These include a suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang and a sex offender against minors. Apart from this, hundreds of immigrant criminals were also deported through military aircraft.
ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) shared details of the criminals arrested. Luis Alberto Espinoza-Boconsaca, convicted of rape, was arrested in Buffalo on Thursday. On January 23, 2025, ICE Buffalo arrested Pedro Julio Mejia, St. Paul arrested Christopher Alexander Ramirez-Olivia, and Denver arrested Magdaleno Zenon Hernandez Garcia. They were charged with child sex offenses, criminal sexual conduct with minors, and continuous sexual abuse.
The White House said that this campaign is only a small part of the Trump administration’s efforts to secure the borders. While issuing the executive order, Trump condemned the increasing wave of illegal immigration in the last four years and called it a threat to national security. He said that many of the illegal immigrants are foreign nationals who pose a big threat to public safety and may be involved in espionage and terrorism-related activities.
Prior to this operation, on January 22, ICE arrested four Bangladeshi nationals in New York. Bangladeshi media reported that these arrests took place in the Brooklyn borough, where many illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are currently living in fear of deportation. This operation of the Trump administration is part of efforts to strengthen the US borders and control illegal immigration.
