The Delhi Police Special Cell and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday busted a drug smuggling racket in several areas of the national capital, including Tilak Nagar. Drugs worth Rs 27.5 crore were seized in this operation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the action of the Delhi Police and the NCB.
Amit Shah wrote on social media platform X, “Our relentless pursuit against the drug trade continues. A major narco-network was busted in Delhi-NCR under the Modi government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs. NCB and Delhi Police busted the gang and recovered methamphetamine, MDMA and cocaine worth Rs 27.4 crore and arrested five people. I appreciate NCB and Delhi Police for this major success.”
Delhi Police said that during this operation, five accused were arrested, including a foreign national. The team recovered 5.103 kg of high quality crystal methamphetamine, which is estimated to be worth Rs 10.2 crore. Four of the five people involved in drug smuggling were African nationals, who are said to belong to an influential family of Nigeria.
During investigation, it was found that the banned substances were brought from an African kitchen in Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi. A search of the kitchen led to the recovery of 1.156 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 4.142 kg of Afghan heroin and 5.776 kg of MDMA (ecstasy pills), worth around Rs 16.4 crore.
Besides, 389 grams of Afghan heroin and 26 grams of cocaine were also seized during a search conducted at a rented apartment in Greater Noida.
The investigation also revealed that the gang used to help African youths in smuggling of drugs and narcotics and they also assisted them in obtaining student visas for studying in prominent private universities of the National Capital Region (NCR) as well as Punjab. Some of the students then got involved in drug smuggling and conversion of crypto currency while staying in India only.
