Britain, Canada and Australia have joined the US in a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. All these countries are boycotting the Beijing Olympics for human rights violations in China.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that no British government minister would attend the Winter Olympics.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that many countries of the world are concerned about the continuing human rights violations by the Chinese government. He told reporters that no diplomatic representative from Canada would go to the Beijing Olympics.
Earlier yesterday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games is in Australia’s national interest.
The US had already announced a diplomatic boycott. President Joe Biden’s administration has cited the massacre of minority Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province as the reason. On Monday, the US President’s Office, the White House, announced that it would not send an official delegation to the Beijing Olympic Games.
New Zealand is also not sending its delegation but it has attributed the reason to the Corona epidemic. However, he has also expressed concern about human rights violations in China.
