The three municipal corporations of Delhi will be formally merged on 22 May. The central government made this announcement on Wednesday.
According to the notification of the Union Home Ministry, the Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Act, 2022 will come into force from May 22. The bill was approved by the Lok Sabha on 30 March and the Rajya Sabha on 5 April.
Another notification said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (i) of section three of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2022 (10 of 2022), the Central Government shall constitute the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. May determines the 22nd day of 2022.
As per the provisions of the Bill, the purpose of integration of the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi is to ensure optimum utilization of resources, coordination and strategic planning.
