The Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir today said that the rescheduling of the Union Territory Assemblies is a very complex issue. The Commission said this after extensive consultations with representatives of political parties, civil society groups and NGOs in Jammu and Kashmir. The Commission has clarified that the process of delimitation will be carried out in a very transparent manner and its draft will be placed in the public domain for objections and suggestions. After this, consultations will also be held with the members of the Commission to prepare the final draft.

Members of the Delimitation Commission have indicated that people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes groups of the Union Territory will be given due representation in the new Assembly. At a press conference in Jammu at the end of the four-day tour, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that during these four days the Commission met two hundred and 90 groups in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Kishtwar and Jammu. Shri Chandra is an ex-officio member of the Delimitation Commission.
