KOLKATA: A public debate has emerged in West Bengal following an appeal by Dhirendra Shastri urging people not to consume non-vegetarian food during the Durga Puja celebrations. In his address, he appealed to devotees to abstain from meat and observe vegetarian practices during the sacred festival. Durga Puja in West Bengal holds distinct cultural traditions where specific culinary habits form an accepted part of the celebrations.
