During the Bengal poll campaign, PM Modi was at war of words with the ruling Mamata Banerjee. Addressing her as Didi, PM Modi attacked her for her objectionable remarks on the people of Bengal. PM Modi mocked CM Mamata Banerjee, asking why she is “so bitter” when “mishti doi is so sweet.”
Mishti doi is a Bengali sweetened curd delicacy. “There is a certain sweetness in Bengal. It’s language, it’s people….don’t get me started about mishti doi and the sweets. Then how are you so bitter, Didi?” PM Modi asked while addressing an election rally in Bengal.
He then went on to explain what he thinks is the reason for Mamata Banerjee’s alleged “bitterness”.
“The reason behind Didi’s frustration is her report card for the past 10 years,” he said. In a dig at Mamata Banerjee, PM Modi stated that she has claimed that people are paying to attend BJP rallies.
“Didi claims that people pay to attend BJP rallies. Bengalis, Didi, are self-respecting people. Didi, you have insulted the Bengali people with this statement “He stated. PM Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress of “turning calamities into money-making opportunities.”
“Hooghly is one of the country’s oldest industrial regions. What has become of it today? Old industries have been decommissioned. New industry, investment, business, and employment opportunities have also been eliminated “Prime Minister Modi stated. He went on to say that there was a time when people would come from all over the country to work in Bengal’s factories. “However, today’s Bengalis are being forced to flee in search of work elsewhere,” he said.
PM Modi said he will attend the BJP chief minister’s swearing-in ceremony, expressing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the West Bengal Assembly election.
“In Nandigram, we saw a preview of what will happen on May 2.” (when results of the Assembly elections will be declared). The government that will be formed on May 2nd will be more than just a two-engine government. he decision to implement PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be taken in the first Cabinet meeting itself,” he said.
