Flight restrictions in northern and western India: Air traffic affected after military action

As a result of missile action by the Indian armed forces against terrorist bases in Pakistan, extensive air restrictions have been imposed in the northern and western regions of India. These restrictions have led to the cancellation of more than 300 flights and the temporary suspension of operations of at least 25 airports.

The affected airports include several places of strategic importance in the country including Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala and Jamnagar. These restrictions will remain in effect till 5:29 am on May 10, 2025.

Indigo airline has confirmed in an official statement that it has cancelled more than 165 flights from various airports including Amritsar, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Gwalior, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Leh, Rajkot and Srinagar. IndiGo operates around 2,200 flights daily under normal circumstances.

Air India Group, which includes Air India and Air India Express, has also cancelled around 140 flights. According to their statement, all flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot airports will remain suspended till scheduled time.

SpiceJet, Akasa Air and several international airlines have also temporarily suspended their services in the affected areas. Passengers are being advised to contact the respective airlines to change their travel plans.

Aviation authorities have taken this step for security reasons and the situation is being constantly monitored.
