NEW DELHI: Reaffirming the central government’s commitment to the agricultural sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that despite sharp escalations in international fertilizer prices, the government ensured no financial burden was passed onto domestic farmers. Even as global prices for urea and other essential fertilizers surged multiple times over, a consistent supply of heavily subsidized fertilizer was maintained for farming communities across the country.
The Prime Minister pointed out that while the actual market cost of a single bag of urea reached thousands of rupees internationally, the government absorbed the massive subsidy burden to make it available to domestic farmers at under ₹300 per bag. By allocating extensive fiscal resources toward fertilizer subsidies, the administration ensured that agricultural input costs remained controlled, protecting rural livelihoods from volatile global market conditions.
These ongoing measures aim to strengthen the rural economy and bolster national food security. Prime Minister Modi also encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming methods, expand the use of nano urea, and progressively reduce reliance on chemical inputs. He noted that timely access to certified seeds, affordable fertilizers, and modern irrigation infrastructure is empowering farmers to achieve record crop production across the nation.
