A mob ransacked two security posts and looted a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Thursday. A security personnel was killed at Kautruk in Bishnupur district when armed attackers engaged in an encounter with security forces .
A Manipur police statement late on Thursday night said the mob attacked the Keerenphabi police post and the Thanglawai police post of the 2nd Battalion of the Manipur Armed Police in Bishnupur and took away a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
As an unruly crowd of 500-600 people gathered at Phougakchao Ikhai on the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, in which around 25 people suffered minor injuries.
The situation in the state continued to be volatile and tense with sporadic incidents of firing and unruly mob gatherings at different places during the last 24 hours.
