India today launched Supersonic Missile Assisted Torpedo from Wheeler Island in Odisha. This weapon system has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for the Indian Navy.
It is the next generation missile which is based on stand of torpedo delivery system. The system is designed to extend the anti-submarine warfare capability beyond the conventional firepower of torpedoes.
DRDO Secretary Dr G. Satheesh Reddy has also congratulated all those involved in the successful test. He said that this system will further enhance the strength of the Indian Navy and promote self-reliance of defence, expertise and capability.
