Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday said he has tested positive for coronavirus. Yediyurappa informed on Twitter that he had tested positive for the novel virus and is being hospitalised as a precautionary measure even though he is fine.

Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa’s tweet came hours after Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter and announced he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Yediyurappa requested all those who came in contact with him recently to “be observant” and exercise self-quarantine.

The 77-year-old chief minister has been admitted to Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru.

“I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine,” Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa tweeted.

BS Yediyurappa is the second chief minister in India, after Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to have tested positive for coronavirus.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa was under self-isolation for some time a couple of weeks ago after a few staff at his office-cum-residence ’Krishna’ were found infected by coronavirus.

Home Minister Amit Shah informed on Twitter on Sunday evening that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is admitted to the hospital, with mild symptoms, on the advice of doctors.

Amit Shah is undergoing treatment at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

On Saturday, Karnataka Agriculture Minister BC Patil said he and his wife have tested positive for coronavirus and are under home quarantine

Prior to Patil, Forest Minister Anand Singh and Tourism Minister CT Ravi had tested positive for Covid-19.

Karnataka has been witnessing a daily spike in coronavirus cases. The state on Sunday clocked 5,532 fresh cases of coronavirus and 84 deaths due to it, pushing the tally of confirmed cases to 1.34 lakh and the toll to 2,496.
