The strike of trade unions affected normal life in Kerala for the second day today. Several trade unions had called for a two-day nationwide strike from yesterday over their demands.
However, following the direction of the Kerala High Court, the state government had announced that the employees who would join the strike would be treated as absent.
In some places, traders faced strong opposition from strike supporters in their attempt to open shops. There are reports of clashes between traders and workers of trade unions at some places.
Banks, shops and business establishments remained closed and vehicles did not ply. Taxis, auto-rickshaws and private vehicles were seen plying at some places.
Essential services, including Covid-related matters and movement of foreign tourists, were exempted from the strike.
The State Road Transport Corporation provided emergency bus service to hospitals, airports and railway stations.
