Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, several Union ministers and MPs from various parties voted on Saturday to choose the next Vice President of India. After that the counting of votes will be done.
Prime Minister Modi was among the first MPs to cast their vote. Sharing a picture of voting, he tweeted, “Voted in the 2022 Vice Presidential election.”
Home Minister Amit Shah, sharing his picture after voting, tweeted, “Voted in the election for the post of Vice President of the country in Parliament today.”
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reached Parliament House in a wheelchair and exercised his franchise in the Vice Presidential election.
Singh had also cast his vote in the presidential election last month by reaching the Parliament House in a wheelchair.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former President Rahul Gandhi cast their vote in the afternoon. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, party general secretary Jairam Ramesh and several other MPs from the main opposition party also exercised their franchise.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar (71) is pitted against joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva (80) in the Vice Presidential election.
