Justice NV Ramana, who is set to be the next Chief Justice of India (CJI), emphasized the need for Centre and State Governments to constitute a “National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation” to fulfill the country’s judicial infrastructure needs yesterday (27 March).
Speaking in the attendance of the incumbent CJI SA Bobde and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Justice Ramana also pressed, “Talking of impediments in the way of modernisation, the financial constraints must never come in the path of progress.”
Justice Ramana argued that perhaps the establishment of such a corporation would provide the standardisation and centralization necessary to fundamentally change judicial architecture, and that greater access to adequate infrastructure is vital.
Justice Ramana added, “We have all witnessed courts operating from dilapidated structures without proper record rooms. There are premises without washrooms, waiting rooms.”
At an event to unveil the new tower of the Bombay High Court’s Goa Bench, Justice Ramana made the statement.
