In view of Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode district of Kerala, holiday has been declared in all educational institutions on Thursday and Friday. The holiday was announced by Kozhikode District Magistrate A Geeta. He wrote in a post on social media that educational institutions can arrange online classes for two days for students. He said that there will be no change in the examination schedule of universities. Nipah virus infection is spreading in the state.
Another 13 people with moderate symptoms have been kept under observation in hospital, the government said. Of those infected, only a nine-year-old child has been kept in the intensive care unit. In view of the infection with the brain-damaging virus, a review meeting was also organized under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Deputy Directors of Health Services have been directed to screen all symptomatic fever cases at the borders with necessary protective equipment. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam, while speaking to the media in Gudalur in Nilgiri district, said that there is no need for people to panic over the Nipah outbreak in Kerala. The minister also said that people who have symptoms of fever will be screened.
