Over 66,000 Coronavirus Cases In India’s Highest One-Day Jump

WITH India’s tally of confirmed novel coronavirus cases crossed the 24-lakh mark on Thursday with just Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu collectively reporting over 15,000 fresh cases of Covid-19.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Covid-19 dashboard, last updated at 8 am on August 13, active cases in India stood at 6,53,622 on Thursday morning. Similarly, 16,95,982 patients had been discharged after recovering from the infection while 47,033 had succumbed to it. The MoHFW’s dashboard will reflect the fresh cases reported on Thursday along with additional recoveries and casualties only on the morning of August 14.

The state of Andhra Pradesh reported 9996 new cases on Thursday along with 82 more Covid-related deaths. As of August 13, Andhra has 2,64,142 confirmed cases of infection while the novel coronavirus has claimed 2378 lives in the state.

On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu government’s Health Department announced the detection of 5835 fresh cases of infection. The state’s tally of confirmed cases now stands in excess of 3.20 lakh. This is inclusive of 53,499 active cases, 2,61,459 discharges after recovery and 5397 casualties to date.

India on August 13 reported its highest single-day tally of confirmed cases with the MoHFW recording an addition of 66,999 new cases to India’s Covid-19 tally. A total of 8,30,391 tests for Covid-19 were conducted across the country on Wednesday.
