A recent report by the National Crime Records Bureau said that out of 19 metros in the country, Kolkata had the lowest number of rape cases last year. According to the report, there were 11 rape cases in Kolkata in 2021, while Delhi had the highest number of rape cases at 1,226 in the country. While 502 cases of rape were registered in Jaipur, 364 cases of rape were registered in Mumbai.
Along with Kolkata, the place from where fewer rape cases were reported includes the name of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, where only 12 cases of rape were reported, the number of such cases in Patna was 30.
According to the report, 165 cases of rape were reported in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, 117 in Bengaluru, 116 in Hyderabad and 115 in Nagpur.
Kolkata’s name is also included in the cities where no case of attempt to rape has been registered. There were 14 rape cases in 2019 and 11 in 2020.
Rajasthan recorded the maximum number of rape cases last year at 6,337, while Nagaland recorded the least four cases. 1,123 cases of rape were registered in West Bengal. Overall, 31,677 rape cases were registered in India last year.
