Amidst the excitement of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals’ star all-rounder Riyan Parag has found himself embroiled in a fresh controversy. The IPL Governing Council has fined Parag a certain portion of his match fee for violating the league’s Code of Conduct. This action was taken after Parag was found using a vape (e-cigarette) inside the dressing room during a match. The incident was caught due to the vigilance of broadcasting cameras and match officials, which the BCCI has considered a serious violation of the dignity of the game and the health safety protocols of the players. Under the strict IPL rules, smoking or use of any kind of electronic cigarette is strictly prohibited on the field, dugout or dressing room premises.

This isn’t the first time Riyan Parag has been in the news for his on-field behavior or social media activities, but this time the matter involves direct professional indiscipline. The match referee clarified in his official report that Parag had admitted his mistake to a Level 1 offense, following which he was imposed this financial penalty. The team management has also expressed its displeasure over the incident and has strictly instructed all players to strictly adhere to the spirit of the game and team rules. Sports experts say that young players are idolized by millions of children and fans, and such actions on a public or professional platform not only tarnish the player’s image but also negatively impact the reputation of the entire league and franchise.

Currently, the Rajasthan Royals are performing exceptionally well this season and are at the top of the points table, but the fine imposed on Parag has created a somewhat uneasy atmosphere in the team’s dressing room. The BCCI has sent a clear message through this action that no player, no matter how talented or prominent, is above the rules and discipline of the game. The issue has also sparked a heated debate among cricket fans on social media, with some calling it a personal choice, while most fans consider it a disrespect to the game. It remains to be seen how Riyan Parag maintains his concentration and performance in the upcoming matches following this controversy.
