In the historic results of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, the Nandigram seat once again stood at the center of Indian politics, where veteran BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari maintained his dominance. According to final data released by the Election Commission, Suvendu Adhikari defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Pavitra Kar by a margin of 9,665 votes in a fiercely contested battle. Adhikari secured a total of 1,27,301 votes, while TMC’s Pavitra Kar finished second with 1,17,636 votes. This victory, achieved after a marathon 19 rounds of counting, is not only strategically significant for the BJP but also clarifies that the people of Nandigram remain firmly with the Adhikari family and the BJP. Notably, Pavitra Kar, once considered a close aide to Suvendu, was fielded under Abhishek Banerjee’s special strategy, yet failed to breach Adhikari’s fortress.

Suvendu Adhikari’s victory is particularly remarkable as he contested from two seats this time—Nandigram and Bhawanipur. Along with winning Nandigram, he also created history by defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her home turf of Bhawanipur by a massive margin of 15,105 votes. The Nandigram results confirm that Adhikari’s hold on the legacy of the 2007 land movement and local issues remains as strong as it was in 2021. Following the announcement, Nandigram was covered in saffron as supporters celebrated with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Adhikari credited his victory to the people of Nandigram and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development, stating on social media that Nandigram has once again chosen ‘Justice’ over ‘Injustice.’

Regarding the overall West Bengal election results, the BJP has secured a historic win with 206 seats in the 294-member assembly, fulfilling its ‘Sonar Bangla’ pledge, while the Trinamool Congress has been reduced to just 81 seats. Political analysts believe that the RG Kar Medical College incident and corruption issues created a strong anti-incumbency wave against the TMC, directly benefiting the BJP. This pivotal win has further elevated Suvendu Adhikari’s stature within the party, positioning him as a potential Chief Ministerial face. While the Election Commission has banned victory rallies to prevent violence, an atmosphere of celebration prevails among BJP workers from Nandigram to Kolkata. This defeat has triggered a period of introspection for the TMC leadership, especially Abhishek Banerjee, who had personally taken charge of the Nandigram campaign.
